Kiss Alive 35 TourAbout a month ago I was contacted by a gentleman named Markus from concert-online.de. He was interested in purchasing the rights to one of my photo's. I have never done this before, but through help from friends and family I was able to work out a deal with him. I sold him the rights for 3 years, exclusive. I wasn't quite sure what the photo was going to be used for, but the other day I found out. Turns out it's going to be used as marketing material for the new Kiss Alive 35 tour. Seems concert-online.de is going to tour around with Kiss and sell a 2-CD set as well as a digital wrist band featuring the Kiss logo that contains recordings of the live concert. Kinda neat. So my photo is used on the CD cases, and on the concert-online.de website, as well as on Kiss' official website.

My picture is the flames themselves. They've used cropped sections of this photo.

Kirby & Kelly: Maternity Photo'sKirby is a co-worker of mine at my regular day job. He approached me a while back asking if I'd like to take some maternity photo's of him and his wife. I was extremely excited about this opportunity, as I find these photo's to be some of the most touching, emotional, and beautiful portraits. It's capturing a very brief and special moment in life between two people. After some discussion we chose his Grandmothers house as the location. It was this really old house that had a ton of character. The walls had all sorts of neat textures and beyond using a red backdrop for the first few images I stuck with the raw character of the house.

It was an extreme pleasure working with both Kirby and Kellie. They were both open minded about trying different artistic visions that I had, and beyond the occasional nip-slip there was no awkward moments for me. Kellie was very willing to try different poses in different locations, and I have to give them both a hand for putting up with the hot-lights. The baby even got into it, occasionally rolling and moving around in Kellie's belly. This being the first maternity photo's I had ever done, I did my research online, getting inspiration from several sources, including some friends and contacts on Flickr, as well as from my fiance Maggie. Thanks!

The location offered a wide variety of scene's to shoot in. The house has so many unique and charming characters, but also had an interesting back yard with this apple tree making for an excellend seat prop, and an interesting scene. But by far my favorite was on the back porch with the cedar shingle walls. It made for some extreme contrasting between Kellie's softness and the rough textures of the wood. Some of these photo's can be seen in my portfolio.

All in all, I feel this photo shoot was a great success. Kirby and Kellie seemed very happy with the end results, and judging from the comments their friends have made on facebook, I've done well. Thanks for the opportunity Kirby & Kellie, I greatly appreciate it.

Jessica & Allan EngagementTwo weeks ago I finished up a session with Jessica Reiss & Allan Hill. They had asked me to take some engagement shots of them. This photo shoot had a couple of special meanings to me. First, this is the first time I've done engagement shots, which is putting me one step closer to doing an actual wedding for someone. The second thing is that Allan is one of my younger brothers. He asked Jessica to marry him just about a year and a half ago, and their wedding is set for next August, 2010. I wanted these photo's to be special. Something that the two of them would look back on in the years to come and would bring a smile to their faces.

The photo shoot went across two evening's of actual shooting. They picked the locations, and I basically took shots of them in their natural state. I didn't want anything planned or posed. I would guide them, but mostly it was them doing what they do best. Love each other. On the first day of shooting there was only one minor setback which delayed shooting for a week, but in the end it was worth it as the weather the following day was not very good, and the day we chose to finish the shots could not have been better. Their first set of shots were taken in a park located in North Vancouver. This park has special meaning to them because almost nightly they go for a walk on the trails in it. The second location was in Stanley Park. We met at Denman and Georgia, and walked the sea wall.

Both Jessica and Allan were very good clients. They were open to idea's and suggestions, and were willing to work with my creative process and trusted in my abilities as a photographer. The final package I hand over to them will include roughly 80 edited photographs, and as a gift from me, an engagement photo album that I'll be custom making.

Starting offWell, it's about time I guess huh? I finally have my website up and running. I've been pondering what to do with the site, and how it's all going to work. I finally decided that I'm going to use this site as a blog, sharing my work as it happens. I'll have samples of the photo's I take for client, as well as posts talking about the job. This is going to take some time to get going, I've had a few jobs so I'll talk about those first. The rest will come as I get work.

My goal is to hopefully make this a more laid back, relaxing, and comfortable experience for any potential customers. Seeing my work is one thing, getting to know and liking the photographer is a completely different thing. A certain level of trust has to be established between me the photographer and you the client. I'm hoping that by sharing my experiences on this blog, and offering samples of the current work I'm doing, people will get to know and trust me. For the clients it will offer a look into how things work on my end and how I felt about the photo shoots with them. They'll get to see a few of their images prior to me handing them their final prints.

I will be adding more to the site in the coming days. My goal is to have it mostly completed by the end of this weekend. I'll have a list of services offered, and a price list for prints. I'll also have my portfolio filled, and hopefully some more news items showcasing the work I've done recently and what I'm currently working on.

Thanks for checking my site out, and I hope you find my work enjoyable. If you're interested in having photo's taken, please contact me or my cute but efficient assistant Maggie to get a quote.
